I haven't even introduced myself on this site yet but I didn't want to waste anytime giving this tip. I heard this from someone in my dog's Oncology office and it has been a HUGE life saver for me and so much less stress on my dog (Nala, a red min pin with Lymphoma). I was having a hard time giving her pills and capsules.... she shares her food with my Pug (Furio) so putting anything in her food was out of the question, I would be able to get a pill or two into her but once she got wise to what I was doing she wouldn't take anything from me...even Filet Mignon...she can be stubborn. So I was getting very frustrated because I knew I had to get these pills and capsules into her and using a syringe was stressing us both out. So my tip is....... put your pills, capsules...anything...in butter. You only need a little bit, just enough to cover the pill and they will eat it right up. She tries sometimes to spit back out the pill but with the butter everything just slides right down her throat and she cannot fight it. It is so easy and pleasant now to give her pills.
I hope this can help someone else out

Thanks for the idea with the butter. Some days my pup will take her meds in her food or peanut butter, others it is the battle royal to get them in. Just yesterday, I found one of them on the floor - I was sure she swallowed. Thanks again.

I use marshmallows. It may not be best to give them the sugar rush, but I can stuff 3 or 4 pills into one marshmallow and my dog swallows them without a care. She would search and spit out pills when I used cheese or peanut butter or butter, so this has been a real life saver.

What a good idea! She should enjoy every moment.....even "pill time." We used to put Benny's pills in liverwurst and called it O'er Douvre time. He would sit and eat each one on a little plate and then lick his little black lips. Makes me cry remembering.
Enjoy those marshmallows Ember! God Bless, Joanne |

our dog simba was diagnosed with lymphoma three months ago(his enlarged lymphnodes were found in his intestines,). After several days of manual pilling both stressful for him and me, i found that if I cut thin slices of fresh mozzarella, place the pills in the center, and make a ball out of it, he eats it up without any fuss.
