Default PLEASE HELP Milignant Melanoma

Well I have finally stopped crying - for right now - and I am looking for answers. My best buddy - Hank, had a toe removed in September which turned out to be melanoma. Our vet didn't seem very worried about it and so we didn't either (BIG MISTAKE!!). He made it sound like it was different in dogs than in humans. He said we just needed to do xrays every 3 months to see if anything showed up. We had his xray done two weeks ago and there were shadows, when in the previous one there were none and he wanted us to see an oncologist. The appointment was on Tuesday. My boy has tumors all through out is lungs and probably other places. He was given 2 weeks to 2 months to live.

There is so much out there and I don't have time to make any mistakes! I had a friend who had stage IV colon cancer and was given 6 months to live and he ended up living a little over 3 years. He took many supplements but thought that Protocel was the one that helped the most. I ordered that on Tuesday and received it the next day and started Hank on that every 6 hours. I am thinking of changing Hank to a raw diet also - but not sure if I should.

I need help! Has anyone out there had any luck with melanoma? There is a vaccine but the doctor didn't think he would live through all the doses and basically told me to really enjoy the time I had with him.

Sorry this is so long but I am desparate! Please help me save my baby!

Default Sorry about your news

Hi:

So sorry to hear your news! You came to the right place for help and support. I think the first thing I would do is get a second opinion, secondly see if there is an oncologist anywhere close at hand (not sure where you live) and thirdly see if there are any holistic vets available too. A lot of people on this site have done a bunch of chemo, herbal stuff etc. Unfortunately this is a disease that is difficult to cure in dogs although there have been some successes in extending their lives. My friend Joanne (Benpaws) has a wealth of knowledge and I am sure will be responding to you. I will do some research and see what I come up with. In the meantime, lots of love, hugs and kisses all round are what you need to do. Will be back in touch.

Prayers and thoughts are with you!

John

Default Hank

Dear Friend,

First of all I am very sorry to hear of Hank's diagnosis and I know what a numb feeling of disbelief you have when you received the news about malignant melanoma.

John gives me too much credit. I don't know anything about this particular cancer, but you might want to check out this link and perhaps with the help of an oncologist start Hank on a regimen of supplements which will boost his immune system and give him extra time.

`Skin Tumours Herbal Treatment - Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments. Human, Canine and Equine. Cancer Support, Radiotherapy Support, Articles and Online Consultation.

Diet is the "key" as well feeding lots of protein and few carbs. Our Benny was on a cancer muffin filled with ingredients and antioxidants to help him fight his Mast Cell Tumours. He also took Artemisinin, Co Q-10, Essiac Tea Capsules, modified Citrus Pectin, Wild Salmon oil capsules, Reishi (a Chinese herb) etc. We had the advantage of working with a very knowledgeable friend from British Columbia, Canada and she added months to Benny's life with her helpful information on diet and supplements. Our vet was of no help whatsoever and misdiagnosed the original tumour when Benny was not quite 4 years old!!

As John says do "get a second opinion" on Hank's particular cancer and try and get an holistic vet in your area to help.

Lots of information is available in the posts here on Food and nutrition and supplements if you have time to read through them.

Lots of others here will be no doubt getting in touch with their expertise and good advice.

Good luck. This is a terrible disease and a "roller-coaster ride" with your best friend.

Blessings,
Joanne

hi so sorry to hear about hank all of us hear nhave been thro the same and know exactly how you feel. my old girl was given 2 weeks but went on for another 8months happy and if you look at my posts you can see how i changed her diet and the supplements she took. i am convinced that this made such a difference as she began taking an interest in everything again. if you give raw i found that my old girl readily adapted to it by starting her off on raw mixed with lightly steamed and gradually leaving out the cooked. my little fokka is now on raw (he is 2) and seems very happy, content and like all cavaliers a right menace at times. i really believe that it makes a big difference to a dogs life and well being. there is a host of info about raw feeding just google it, and all the very best to you and hank
