Has anyone tried this treatment of IV Vitamin C, or know any one who has (human or animal)
Sounds promising - with little side effects. I'm going to ask my oncologist about it this week, but hoping to hear some opinions from everyone here. Thanks Trish & Maximus |

I'm really interested in the vitamin C too. I did ask my vet but he wouldn't even look into it. Please keep me posted as to what you find out. I think it sounds safe and really worth a try. Toni & Rusty |

Hi Toni
I will definitely let you know what we come up with. I'm not entirely sure what the oncologist will think. They may shoot me down, but if they do, there is a vet in my area who practices alternative care. She has treated Max before for acupuncture so I suspect she may be a good resource. I am hoping the oncologist will have an interest, since they know my boy so well by now. |

So this is what I've come up with so far regarding the IV Vitamin C.
So far, I have heard back form one person, very knowledgeable in canine cancer. They basically did not recommend it, and the knew of only one person who tried with with their dog and said it was a "tragic" experience. They did not expand on the details of what this meant. They also sent a link to indicate the studies to this point have been flawed. http://www.quackwatch.org/01Quackery.../Cancer/c.html The oncologist I saw this week (my regular onco was away so it was his colleague) said it was too experimental and they do not use it. Seems whenever I get a glimpse of something that could be helpful - hope gets dashed. I would love to try things that would help Maximus, but not if it would hurt him or put him through unnecessary stress. I guess my choice at this point is to not pursue it. Frustrating to say the least... and leaves me wondering what actually DOES help... or is it all just a big guess... Having never dealt with cancer in a human loved one, I suppose I thought there were more proven alternative treatments that were available. I thought science had come farther than this. Am I crazy in thinking that no one really seems to know what the heck truly helps???? |

Thank you for checking it out. I am so afraid of trying anything that will cause Rusty to feel worse then he is. We are going for another Elspar shot on Thursday. The first one (1 month ago) made a few of the tumors in his mouth disappear, not all of them went away and his breathing was better. Today I noticed more tumors popping up around his nose and the big one under his nose is bleeding he is breathing harder again. Elspar is a form of chemo it is an amino acid, they also call it aspariginaise(I think that is how you spell it). God Bless you and Maximus. He is just beautiful. This is such a horrible thing, my heart breaks for everyone going threw this. Toni & Rusty |

Thank you for asking. The elspar shot helped again! He had the shot on Thursday and by Sunday the tumors stopped bleeding and some of them got smaller again, also his breathing isn't as loud. He was a little exhausted from the whole ordeal but he is back to normal. Last month when he had the first shot I tried nothing new because I wanted to see what happened. This time I bought some reishi mushrooms and turimec and essiac drops. I'm going to try to build up his immune system with some new weapons. I'm really not sure the amount I should be giving him. I know I saw web sight that gave you amounts but now I can't find it. He weighs 55 lbs. If you have any information on where to look please let me know. How is Maximus doing? Give him a love from me. God Bless! Toni & Rusty |

Hi Trish And Toni,
I just read through your messages and I feel the same way about this disease. Does anything really help our little fur pals? I am reaching the stage of great frustration. Benny's tumour is hard an inflamed and seems to be growing but he doesn't complain. He is on so many supplements and I try new recipes that are anti-inflammatory and he enjoys his meals. We don't know whether to take him to the vet and try another $100 injection of cortisone which didn't help much last time. I spoke to the vet about Elspar and he didn't think it would help Benny. What are we to do? I think with all the fund raising for cancer( and both my inlaws passed away from this horrendous disease) there would be more help out there and many alternative treatments which WORK! I pray for everyone on this "journey" and it is nice to read uplifting stories when something positive happens. God Bless you both and everyone else here. Hugs, Joanne & Benny |

Hi! I just love talking to you, everyone around here thinks I'm crazy. I tried K-9 immunity and the transfer factor. I just stopped a couple months ago when he started getting really bad. I really think if you haven't tried it you might want to. I've been thinking of getting more. There are 6 different kinds of mushrooms in it. I also have been thinking of colloidal silver. I have some silver shield gel and I put it on the tumors Rusty has on his back and shoulder. I'm going to do a little research online and see if I can find out anything. Trish did Maximus have that other treatment that started with a L. Do the elspar and the other one work together. I never knew there were so many kinds of cancer. Is it the type of cancer or the type of dog that some things work and some do not. I had complete blood work done for Rusty Tuesday and I will talk to the vet tomorrow. I'm going to post some blood levels to see what people think. This is getting very expensive, but I can't give up. I always think wonder if... God Bless all 4 of you! Toni & Rusty |

Hi Trish and Toni,
I just returned from a lovely day out with my best friend and I feel I can deal again with Benny's cancer. I really have put my "life on hold" because of this disease. What a wonderful day we had starting with a nice luncheon and talk and then just browsing the shops and laughing. It felt so good to not feel like crying and to joke over silly girl things. I needed that badly. I am giving Benny Yunnan Baiyou capsules and have powder which I can put on his tumours if they bleed. Suzi sent these both to me Trish. Apparently the powder is used for football players and hockey players who get bad injuries. The downside is that Benny cannot eat fish when he takes the capsules and therefore is missing out on the Omega 3 which he needs. Give me a break! I'll do whatever helps. Our vet just called and is increasing the prednisone which Benny is taking since the cortisone shots did nothing. God Bless you and Maximus and Toni and Rusty and all my other friends here. What a JOURNEY this is! Carpe Diem! Hugs, Joanne Last edited by Benpaws; 03-25-2009 at 09:25 PM. |
