Joanne - so glad to hear you had such a great day out with your friend, and got a break from the stress. I did that also the other day. Maximus and I seem to be developing a likely unhealthy co-dependent relationship LOL... we're joined at the hip lately. And each time I'm out, I just want to get back home to see him. He follows me around endlessly (never used to) - he's never more than 5 feet away from me. BUT, a good friend finally convinced me to join her for a great dinner and a healthy dose of wine. It was wonderful to get a breather from the stress. Congrats to us for taking some well-deserved 'me' time!
Some days I feel like all I think about it supplements and diet and exercise and watching and worrying.... it's exhausting... I have no intention on giving up on him, but it was nice to feel happy and 'normal' for a bit. Sorry to hear that Benny's tumor is not going down, but happy for him that he's not complaining - that's most definitely a great sign. Big hugs to him from me! Toni - You are not crazy -you just love your dog! I know some of my friends think I'm obsessed with Maxmius' health issues, but hey - that's my choice - not theirs. If they're my friends, they can just deal with it. LOL Hopefully they know me well enough to not be surprised by it. Interestingly, I have noticed that some people that I thought would be more sympathetic or concerned, aren't... and some friends that I thought never had an interest in my animals are very supportive.... very strange how people can surprise you, but their support means the world to me! I'm really happy for Rusty that the Elpsar helped a bit with the tumors. That's great! Max is going tomorrow to get start the Lomustine. I'm not sure how often he will get it. It's oral and pretty potent I think, but with potentially very bad side effects. I'm hoping we will not have to endure any of them...but I'm trying to prepare emotionally just in case something does go wrong. Supposedly it's very hard on their liver (possible toxicity) and can cause breathing problems, among other things, if they have a reaction to it. He has not adversely reacted to anything else yet.. so I'm hoping that continues! Max has had 3 Elspar shots in total. His onco seems to prefer giving it at the beginning of a new round of chemo. So he had one in June, one after New Years and one last week. Brings the lymph nodes right down. As I understand it, they can only have it a certain number of times before it doesn't help anymore (or maybe do harm?)... not sure which. I am guessing it will not be given again while he is getting the Lomustine. I'm not sure about the dosages of essiac drops. Max gets the home brewed tea - about 4 oz am & pm. The reishi he gets was sent to me and they told me the dose - but I'm thinking it may well depend on who makes the brand you have as to the strength of it, so it may not be the same as mine....? Big hugs to Rusty! |

Trish,
DiD you listen to Dr Fox? I swear he said it was something that he would use to boost a dogs immune system. That was a very interesting, now I'm wondering if my vet is willing to order it and give it a try. I pray Max is doing ok. How are you doing? God Bless! Toni & Rusty |
