My 9 year old cocker spaniel, Bayley, was diagnosed with mast cell tumor stage 3 in May. We had her "lump" removed with a successful surgery with clean margins. Unfortunately, a new lump appeared just a few short weeks later almost in the same location. Her doctor did a needle aspiration and again cancerous cells are present. He assumes it has spread to her lymph nodes now and possibly other places. She is on prednisone 2x a day. Some days the tumor appears larger and other days it appears to be shrinking. Is this possible? She has a heart condition and I just can't imagine putting her through chemo or another surgery. It breaks my heart and I feel as if I am just watching her die. We didn't go on vacation because I was afraid that something would happen while we were gone and I very seldom leave her alone. I am dreading going back to school in a few weeks. I can't ever get this time back with her. I need some advice..please help.
