Default For All Who Had to Make the Hard Decision

I found the below and it helped, from our furry friends perspective. I hope it helps all our friends who are going through these difficult times. I found it here: Pet Loss - Poem List. along with many other wonderful words of comfort. I hope everyone finds some words that help. Just this morning, for the third time this week, I looked towards the clouds and saw one shaped just like Hershey, our little 10 year old Westie who went to sleep on July 20, after a short, but strong battle with lymphoma. I now know he's looking down on us. I can almost feel his presence, and he is forever in our hearts, until we meet again, on Rainbow Bridge. Please take comfort, my dear friends.

You're giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.

But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts
Will only be in vain.

So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
Once more make me whole.

The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it's the only way.

That strength is why I've followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I've loved you all these years...
My partner 'til the end.

Please, understand just what this gift,
You're giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I've lost,
And all my dignity.

You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it too.

So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that's within you,
To now grant me this appeal.

Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.

And don't despair my passing,
For I won't be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I'll stay.

I'll be there watching over you,
Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I'll run,
...a young dog once again.

This is beautiful! I have read through these poems and they do bring comfort. It is good to be surrounded by people who know exactly how you feel when you lose your best friend and share with you and show compassion for you. Thank you for sharing this one with all of us who can relate to the words.

This is one of my favourites even though it always makes me cry.

I am so glad you are looking up at the clouds and seeing Hershey as I have so often seen Benny. Hershey will always watch over you and guide you through the rest of your life because he loved you so much. "Love never dies."

Thank you for sharing this poem with us all.

God Bless You,
Joanne & Shadow

I read this wonderful poem again and yes, it does bring comfort. I will be thinking of Hershey tomorrow and all your family. The "firsts" are always the hardest days after a loss.....the first week, the first month, the first birthday.

We all care and know how you are feeling.

Keep looking up at those clouds and you will see Hershey often. He was just like a white fluffy cloud himself. Beautiful puppy!

Blessings & Prayers,
Joanne & Shadow
