Default Bisto the whippet

Bisto, the black whippet with pricked ears, was put down at 2.30 on Monday 2nd August 2010. She was a rescued dog from the RSPCA in Preston, Lancashire. I had her 10 years. She was slightly aloof at first and a bit out of character for a whippet with more tenacity. She soon came to trust me implicitly and would let me do anything to try to help her, if anything hurt, she let me know by putting her mouth around my hand and looking at me, but never bit. She was funny, quick, clever, my best friend, tough, loving, trusting...
I'll miss her forever. She had a mast cell tumour removed 7 months ago. It was grade 3 so naturally it spread. I had three more operations, chemo and finally masivet. In the end, she was on painkillers, had 20 or more tumours, spread into the lymph nodes and had just become lame with swollen joints the day before she was put down. It started 2/3rds of the days were good on chemo end went towards 1 in 3 days being ok for her. At the end, it was obvious she wanted to go.
Bisto, I'm sorry for my failings and wish I could have done more for you. I'll never forget you. I could talk about some of our adventures but I reckon they're between you and me. Goodbye old girl, my life is richer for knowing you and you have left a massive void in my heart

Default I lost my baby, too

I lost my baby to Lymphoma on 7-31-10. I had him for 14 years since I found him as a young pup at a local shelter.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Coming to this site and be surrounded by people who knows exactly how I feel is comforting to me. I hope it helps you too. I think I can say I know how much you miss Bisto...
(if you are not sure, check out my latest post in the "coping with the loss" section.)

I finally took a shower today and went to the store... ended up buying a bunch of white spray roses and put them next to his picture and his collar, and cried some more. Everyone tells me it takes time to heal, lots of time, and meanwhile, grieve as much as you need.

Please know, that everyone who had to sign up on this site feels for you and share your sorrow.

What a beautiful, touching eulogy. Bistro knew he had the best life possible. You did everything you could. The empty spot and tears won't go away too soon. Losing our fur babies is an awful feeling. Been almost 2 years since losing my Larry boy and I still have times where I cry about him. We never forget them...

It is evident how much love and trust there was between you and Bisto and in the end you honoured the dignity of this puppy by making the only decision you could out of selfless love and said "goodbye."

Our Benny was only 6 and he too had Mast Cell Tumour cancer. The pain of loss was great and I still cry. He passed away in April, 2009 after a very brave 18 month battle with the demon cancer.

Thank you for sharing your touching story of Bisto and he will be in your heart for a lifetime.

Blessings,
Joanne & Shadow
