Default Mullitple Myeloma

Hi. My name is Allysen and I just created an account. I'm not entirely sure what this is for but I'm going to introduce myself and my dog.
I'm an 18 year highschool graduate. I graduated May 23rd, 2010.
I have a dog who I always brag and talk about. I got him when I was 6 years old. He got arthritis a few years ago and took medication for pain. Recently he started losing his hearing and his eye sight. One day, I noticed his eye looked droopy and lazy. I called the doctor and took him in to get it looked at. The vet checked out his eyes and did blood work. The next day the vet called me and told me that my dog has Mulitple Myeloma.
Multiple Myelome is a cancer that causes abnormal plasma cell build up in bone marrow forming tumors in many bones of the body.
Naturally when I found out I cried until I couldn't breathe. My family and I are doing everything we can to give him a happy life. He enjoys walks, wet dog food, and belly rubs. He is the sweetes dog I've ever known along with the most well behaved and best trained. He's always wagging his tail and is always happy to be around the people he loves. He even gives hugs. He'll stick his head inbetween your legs or under your arm, wag his tail, and hug you. he is amazing.
His name is Chancelor Duncan. Chance for short. He is a 12 year old sheltie, golden retreiver mix. His birthday is June 14th. Out of the 3 dogs I have, Chance is everyone's favorite. He is MY dog, and it kills me I can't fix it. He's like my baby.
So now you know who I am and who Chance is.

Allysen,
Welcome but so sorry you need to be here. This site is great for support and advice. My furbaby has lymphoma (in full remission) so I'm not familiar with the particular cancer you're dealing with. However, there are a few steps you can take to help Chance. Switch him (gradually) to a grain free diet - cancer feeds on carbs. Give him bottled or filtered water if you're not already. And, give him a good quality Omega-3 supplement (human grade OTC is fine). I'm sure some others will be able to offer some other good tidbits of info too. Best of luck to you and chance as you begin your battle!

Allysen, I am so sorry to hear about your canine compainion's situation. I recently lost my beloved dog to melanoma. She had been fighting it for a year. My only regret was that I hadn't discovered this website earlier. Perhaps I would have had more quaility time with her. The only advice I must tell you is do your research and asked questions of the medical personel that your dealing with. I found that having some knowledge of you situatiion will give you great direction on where to proceed. Best of luck to you and most of all, Chance!
