My 8 1/2 year old Golden Retirever Jackson has been diagnosed with Nerve Sheath Sarcoma. He had an 8cm tumor removed from his flank 3 weeks ago. He is recovering well.
I need help, support and advice on diet and nutrition (on a budget) that will help him live a long and healthy life. Thank you. |

Hi:
Diet is key. Protein, no carbs. K9 Immunity from places like Aloha Pharmaceuticals. Budwig protocol which is cottage cheese and flax seed oil blended. I am sure that you will get a lot more advice from my friends on the site but this is a start. Lots of love and hugs help both of you! Let us know if you need anything more...prayers to you! Holistic vets can be a good source of pain relief for your buddy too. John |

You have come to the right place!
Diet wise, carbohydrates feed cancer cells so if you feed a high protein, low to no carb diet, you will not help cancer cells live. I sure understand the budget part. I shopped for whoever had the cheapest ground beef or ground turkey or ground chicken. If you have a Winco, they mark their ground meats down the day before they expire to $1 per package, usually about 1 1/2 lbs per package.I mixed the ground meat with raw broccoli, carrot and spinach (buzzed for a few seconds together in the food processor on grate),a little cooked lentil, cottage cheese, small amount of fresh garlic and a couple tablespoons of cold pressed flasxseed oil. You can make large patties and freeze them individually in small containers. I usually just made a three day batch, divided it into small containers for single feeds and stored in the fridge. My dog loved the raw diet. An inexpensive supplement is Artemisinin, promising studies with it killing cancer cells in dogs and humans. |

Dear Friend,
I could not add anything more than my friends have already mentioned. High Protein diet is the best way to go. Also, as TJ said Artemisinin is a tried and true supplement which destroys cancer cells in both humans and animals. There are lots of great posts here on FOOD AND NUTRITION which will be helpful. Good luck on the "Roller coaster ride" which is most difficult. Prayers to you and Jackson. Blessings, Joanne & Shadow |

I have started Jackson on a high protein diet. Switched from his life-long kibble (Eukanuba) to Evo mixed with cottage cheese. He has had runny poo for a week trying to get used to the new diet but he loves it. He pounds on his bowl for more!
I will mix in the flaxseed oil (how much for an 85 pound active golden?) as well as the artemisinin which I will pick up today. Do I just get it at the health food store? How much do I give him? Thank you all. |

Not sure how much cottage cheese and flax seed oil. Check out:
Dr Johanna Budwig's Diet & Protocol: Pet (Dog & Cat) Cancer Healing Testimonials You have to make it fresh every day and we gave it to Rocky every afternoon as a treat. It's supposed to be blended so if you don't have enough in the jar to blend you can always add some plain yogurt to give it more liquid. Hope this helps! Take care John |

I don't think you can get Artemisinin in most Health Food stores, but you can order it online at HOLLEY PHARMACEUTICALS CO: Home of High Quality Artemisinin: Home
Hope this helps. Joanne |
