Just founf this site and need all the help we can get with helping our 13.5 year old English Bulldog, Gunther who was diagnosed with Lymphoma a couple of weeks. Gunther has been a rock for my wife and I and now it is our turn to be his rock.
Everyday with him is special but he is struggling. He has been on Predisone which reduced his sweeling a lot. We have increased the amount of protein in his diet and started to treat him with some homopathic treatsments as well. Any suggestions on making him more comfortable would be welcomed. Thanks CM2 |

Dear Friend,
I certainly understand your love for your English Bulldog Gunther. Our youngest son and his wife have a 3 year old English Bulldog named Molly and she is their "heart." We lost our 6 year old schnauzer Benny to cancer in April and I know how devastating the news of your beloved companion having this disease is to both you and your wife. You have definitely found the right site. Lots of information and compassionate, caring "dog people." There are many posts filled with valuable information from people who have gone through or are presently dealing with cancer in their puppies and Lymphoma has been discussed often. you are not alone. I would recommend you look into www.smilingblueskies where there is a wealth of information as well as contacting the website of Dr. Robert McDowell. He has helped many in this forum with excellent results. This is his website:http://www.herbal-treatments.com.au/...r_support.html Good luck and my prayers go out to you and your wife and especially Gunther. Do not give up HOPE! Blessings, Joanne & Puppy Shadow Last edited by Benpaws; 12-02-2009 at 01:08 PM. |

It's so very hard to watch our furry babies go through this awful ordeal that is cancer. My boy Jake had lymphoma too and watching him decline and then making the decision to end his suffering were some of the most difficult things I have ever done.
With Jake I did totally chemo and it didn't turn out well for him. I have decided that with my girl, Madchen, I would try the holistic route and I have very pleased with the results. She gets a mostly raw, natural diet I got from my holistic vet and supplements. Her bladder cancer will never be cured, but with the right treatment, she may go on to live a normal dog life span. The most important thing for me right now, as I am sure it is for you, is no suffering. She has really perked up with the diet and supplements we have her on. No one guesses that she's a cancer dog. Do your research (this is a great place to go) and do what your heart tells you. Gunther trusts you to make the decisions for him. He knows you love him. Love and prayers, Jackie |

Whatever your dog loves, that is what you do. My dog LIVES for his walks. I promised him that as long as he is well enough to and wants to go for a walk, I will take him every morning and every late afternoon/early evening and I have kept my promise. He was diagnosed with stage III/IV Lymphoma in August and we did not expect him to last throughout the fall, let alone into December. And I have not broken my promise to him. We have walked in sun, clouds, rain and snow. This morning it was 12 degrees out and although I didnt think he would want to go, he was as excited as any other day to hit the trail. So we did. My toes are still numb.
His Lymph nodes went way down and we were able to wean him off the Prednisone for a few months, while building up his immune system with Canine Immune System Support,Artemisinin, Agaricus Bio, Fish oil, flaxseed oil and a raw diet ,removing all grains and adding fresh broccoli, spinach and carrot. We just started him back on Prednisone because his lymph nodes have gotten big again. The Prednisone does not seem to be helping in the swelling this time, although he seems to FEEL good and eats vigorously still. If he didnt have the lumps in his neck and back legs you would not know he is sick. Enjoy all the normal-seeming moments you have, We are on our last days/weeks of our time with him. I have accepted it, but it breaks my heart just the same. I love him so much. Just love your dog and do what you know he loves and enjoy those things with him for as long as you can. We are all here to support you in this journey. Last edited by TJandDante; 12-02-2009 at 09:03 PM. |
