I have a golden retriever that was diagnosed with that 6 months ago. We had his tumors removed but they came back a month later. His mouth is now full of them. The vet said he could have surgery to remove part of his jaw but she also said it was very possible that it would come back again. We chose not to remove part of his jaw, I mean he is uncomfortable enough now, we couldn't put him through that. We also thought about chemo but we don't have that here. We would have to send him to P.E.I and that would not go over good with Rider. He is a big sook for his mom, dad and sissy. We had him on antibiotics for months but they weren't helping him in the end, guess he was immuned to them. By looking at Rider you would never think he has cancer, untill he smiles and you can see the tumors all along his bottom and top jaw. I have seen a BIG differance in him since he has gotten cancer. He is finding it hard getting up, back legs are hurting him, his breathing is harder, loss of stamina. His appitite is stll awesome which boggles me but he is a fighter aswell. My family made the decision last weekend that we will have to put him to sleep this saturday. He will be eight years old saturday. I wish we didn't have to do it now, but I know it is for the better. In a month he will be ten times worst and I can't bare to see him like that. Ted has alot to offer in his book, unfortunatley I was too late finding him. I hope your Missy pulls through. Continue to give her lots of love...I think that is the main reason why Rider is still fighting..because of the unconditional love he is given every second of the day. Take Care.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby Missy. My Rusty who is almost 12 has had epitheliotropic lymphoma for about 2 years, the vet gave him 6 months. He has had tumors on his gums under his tongue right now there is one the size of a pea under his nose on his upper lip. The tumors on his gums would bleed and then stop. One of the tumors was the size of a small prune. In the begining I gave him the K9 Immunity, fish oil,CQ10,E,D,A and Hills Canine N/D. A few months ago I tried Agaricus Blazei mushrooms (which I noticed a month ago they are in K9 Immunity). I gave him the mushrooms for about a month, during that time the tumors seemed to bleed more then ever. It was within the next month that 2 of the bigger tumors went away and some of the smaller ones on the outside of his mouth went away too. We are months down the road from those mushrooms and those tumors have never returned. He has new tumors and the cancer has attacked the pads of his front foot. So I thought I would try those mushrooms again, this time they didn't do a thing. About a month ago his foot was bleeding his mouth tumors were bleeding his breathing was so so loud and I found a lump in his neck. I went to the vet and he gave him a Depo? shot and sent us home with prednisone. We never did chemo this whole time but we couldn't give up yet so we tried this amino acid called asparaginase (Elspar). Within 3-4 days the tumors went away (not the one under his nose,I think it got smaller) his feet stopped bleeding and are healing up. This is a form of chemo and it was a one shot miracle for Rusty. To find infor I typed in canine asperaginase elspar and did a google search. I'm not an expert I believe God has helped me and has shown me different things to do. I do feed him chicken breasts with fresh garlic and cottage cheese with activia yogart I put vitamins and herbs in every meal. I pray that you find the right combination of things to keep Missy's immune system strong. It is a never ending battle but it is worth it. God gave us these little guys to love and they love us so much even when they are so sick. I really don't think they know how sick they are. It does get very expensive. You guys are in my prayers God Bless! Toni and Rusty |

Dear Toni,
When I was at the vet's the other day I mentioned the Elspar for Benny and he knew about it but said he preferred to try the cortisone-based drug one more time. The tumour has not shrunk much, just a little so perhaps he'll give the Elspar next time. You have been lucky so keep doing what you are doing. This is such a "roller coaster" ride and sometimes I just feel so exhausted trying to read more things I can do and searching for better nutrition etc. Take care. Joanne (Benpaws) & Benny |

I cannot help but think of you and your family today and Rider and what a difficult decision you had to make to put Rider to sleep on his eighth birthday tomorrow. This is beyond sad and my heart truly bleeds for you. I know the pain you are feeling is indescribable, but you are doing the kindest thing you can for your beloved companion. This disease is so unfair and takes the BEST before their time should be up. Take care of yourself and when you are ready come back to this place where you will continue to find love and support and hopefully comfort. We all care about you and Rider. God Bless, Joanne (Benpaws) & Benny |

Jaonne and Benny,
Thank you so much for being so thoughtful. I am having a really bad day. I am so confused. I am wondering if I am doing the right thing. All week Rider seems to be doing really good, a huge differance in him from last week. People are telling me not to let him go until I see him suffering and then others are telling me not to wait. I am feeling guilty today because he seems so much better. Am I robbing him of the little time he has left with us?? My heart hurts so bad..I love him so much. I called the vet this morning to see if she can examine Rider before she puts him to sleep. I need her advice and I want to hear it from her that I am making the right decision. I will never be able to live with myself if not, keep wondering what if?? I am going to pray for that miracle again tonight, I hope god answers me this time. Let me have more time with my boy. I just can't bare to let him go yet, especislly if she says I have more time. I don't know, I really don't. I am just a mess. I find comfort in reading your kinds words, thank you again. It is so hard to know what to do because one day is good one day is bad, your up your down and your insides are twisted in a knot. We are so connected with what is happening to our babies that all we do is think what to do next. I sure understand you and your family want every last second to be with Rider. Each day things change with this thing called cancer. It really makes you crazy. I agree with all your prayers and I hope you get the answers to everything you are praying for. God bless you and your family and of course Rider! Toni & Rusty |

Dearest fellow sufferer,
So hard indeed to know the time to help our babies across the Rainbow Bridge. (Have you read the poem?) If you are inclined read thru my thread "I'm journaling my heart out for Larry", especially the last part where I write on the day we put him down. The Rainbow Bridge poem it there too with a beautiful picture. You'll see the photo that was my miracle answer from God that gave me immense peace. Larry had good days and bad ones too. Towards the end I found myself looking for good hours. Weeks earlier I had prepared a list in my mind of three things that I would have to observe in Larry before making THE decision. Not eating, incontinence, difficulty breathing for extended time (his airway was being cut off by the tumor) were on the list. One his last day he did not eat and did not move around very much because of such shortness of breath...oh this hurts to write but I'm pushing myself in hopes of helping you. Larry's symptoms that I had pre-defined, told me it was time. God's symbol (see picture) confirmed it. Yesterday and today each time I think of you and rider my heart goes out to you and I start bawling. We are here for you. Be strong for Rider, don't confuse him with your grief. Give Rider permission to go when he is ready. Tell him you love him and to let you know the time. We are all praying for you. God Bless You. |

If Rider is giving you signs that he is feeling better, then let him have more time with you. Perhaps he is not ready to leave either. The list that Raymond gave you re" his boy Larry is excellent. When our first Schnauzer Wolfie became ill with diabetes we were ready on three different occasions to take him to the vet and each time he recovered and seemed reluctant to leave us and we had two more months of pure joy with our little fur guy. He wasn't a bouncy little puppy but he was well enough to stay with us a while longer. Where there is "life" there is also "hope" and maybe Rider hopes to spend some more time with you all. If he is eating well and not having laboured breathing, pat him and love him and keep him with you and celebrate his 8th birthday. My heart goes out to you and my prayers are with you and Rider. Everyone here understands. Hugs, Joanne & Benny |
