Question My golden Retriever,Shane

I have a ten year old golden who was just diagnosed with lymph node cancer. He began chemo last week ,which consists of a shot once a week for four weeks. He got his first one last Wednesday and within 24 hours his swelling had gone down ( allowing him to eat) and within 48 hours he was back to his very young playful self. One of my biggest concerns is that Shane also suffers from pancreatitis and seizures. He would get about 2 a year of each, and my heart would break everytime. Well, we ended up putting him on Hill's prescription I/D, canned and dry food, and fed him small portions three times a day. We also made sure he got no table food or even milk bones ( because of the fat content). Anyway, for the past two years he has had no attacks at all. We also give him 20mg of pepcid a/c every morning. Now, i am worried that this food just isn't nutritional enough to fight the cancer. I know there are supplements out there which could help him fight the cancer, but i don't know what might trigger a pancreatic attack either. The vet says this type of cancer is one of the most treatable and he could have a good quality of life for anywhere from 9 months to 14 months or more. I want more time than that...Any suggestions? A friend of mine suggested" lactoferrin"..Anyone know anything about it? Thanks

I lost my yellow lab to that cancer one month ago..he was almost 13 and did not tolerate the chemo, although most of the patients I met in the oncology office said their dogs did fine on it...I am a former nurse and believe if he is eating, keep him on his regular food and don't worry too much about a "cancer fighting diet"..the chemo will fight the cancer...your dog needs to eat to stay strong....Mine did not want to eat after his treatments and it was a real struggle...When I was a practicing nurse in heart surgery, we used to tell our patients to eat ANYTHING they wanted just to encourage their appetites and get their strength back..Good luck...I think your Shanen should do very well! I did send you a private note but don't think you have read it yet. I suggested that perhaps you look into the following website:Canine Cancer: Nutrition and Diet Can be Key
For months now we have been purchasing these CANINE MUFFINS filled with lots of antioxidants and Benny cannot wait for his dinner. We also add freshly steamed broccoli and spinach and sometimes sweet potato or squash. I add a little turmeric as well to most meals and often tomatoes which he isn't crazy about. The muffins come frozen (24 for $52.00).

Good luck with Shane.
