Georgia, a spade black and white female Basenji was euthanized in February of 2000 after a year long battle with Cushings disease. At the time, there were no established chemo or herbal therapies with the exception of providing her petspice. I have opened this thread in case someone else would like to know more about this type of cancer. Georgia was the result of a deliberate breeding of a Fanconi affected Basenji bitch to a healthy, Fanconi tested clear Basenji male in an attempt to understand the mechanism of this disease, which at the time seemed confined to Humans and Basenjis. The NIH provided funding for a five year study of Fanconi in Basenjis, hoping the research could be applied to Fanconi affected humans. It was ironic Georgia would die of something completely unrelated, at the age of 12.
This link has a lot more info on Cushing's Disease, then I have space here to explain. cush02 Cushing's disease is insidious and can mask itself as so many other health problems. It can also be expensive in terms of time and money to diagnose. Cande |
