Default Wendy & Tanner

I have been reading alot on this site and have also been searching the web looking for ideas on what to feed Tanner as he battles cancer. I have switched him to grain free hi protein dry food along with fresh vegetables such as carrots, green beans, lettuce, and brocoli. The problem is, he is gaining to much weight and seems hungry all of the time. I have cut back the amount I feed him but he acts like he is starving at night. Any suggestions would be geatly appreciated. Maybe I am worrying to much about his weight since the cancer is the biggest concern. I just want him as happy as possible for the time he has left while helping his system in its battle.
Any thoughts on rawhide bones? Are they bad for dogs with cancer?

Default Rawhide

Yes, rawhide bones are bad for dogs in that they often remain in the intestines and cause great distress and often surgery is required. We have never fed them to any of our dogs and never will.
Prayers go out to you and Tanner.

Blessings,
Joanne

Default Rawhides

Thank you Joanne, I thought these would help him in the evening as he is always begging for food but I will definately avoid them now. I might try dried Sweet Pototo Skins. I will need to look into these a little more but they might help Tanner's hunger in the late evenings.

Default Raw Bones

Hi Wendy

Here’s a suggestion my holistic vet gave me for Goobie and you may want to try for Tanner. A raw quartered “knuckle bone” or other rounded bone. These can be given daily and also help to maintain dental health.
****Never feed poultry or pork bones and never feed cooked bones****
I gave Goobie raw Bison bones as they were available in Canada at a pet store that carried bison bones for dogs.
Another thing I used to do is cook up chicken hearts and if he wanted something I would give him a couple of those. With the bones and the chicken hearts Goobie was quite content with his new treats.
Thinking of you
