Cassie lost her fight with cancer today. She wass16 years old and the sweetest dog in the world. She went as she wanted. We were taking her to the vet and she passed lying in my arms. I miss her so much already. I raised her from a pup when she was 8 weeks. When I got back from the vet, I almost expected her to be there waiting for me. Thank you for all your advise and support.

Dawn:
So sorry to hear the news about Cassie. 16 years is a long time to have together. My suggestion is to write down all the fun times you had together and keep it to read down the road. I did the same when my Rocky died at 7 last year from Lymphoma...HE now has his own book published to carry on his legacy! John |

I am so very sorry to read this, this morning... Passing in your arms was a blessing and she was probably at peace being with her mom! I wished thats the way it was for me 5/7/10. It is so hard to imagine no "baby". Daisy was 16 years 7 months last week when she passed and we are so blessed to have had soooo much loving, caring, time with them. When I read some threads I cry at the short time some of these precious companions are here on this planet. it does not feel fair... Thinking of you and Cassie now and know her and Daisy never knowing eachother have meet now and are watching us as they play...
XOXO Patricia, Daisy's Mom

Dear Dawn,
I am so sorry to hear of Cassie's "passing" but how lovely that she just "went to sleep" in your arms, peacefully, knowing she was loved. The day we took Benny in for the last visit and seeing the needle go into his furry gray and white paw and then SILENCE is stamped on my brain. It still brings tears. He was only 6. This part of your journey without Cassie beside you is most difficult and it is a long time of grieving when you had so much together for so long. Take care of yourself and as John said, perhaps you can start a journal about Cassie and when it gets a little less painful you can read what you have written. I have ordered the book John wrote and I know it will be filled with joy and some sadness, but out of the loss of 7 year old Rocky came a PUBLICATION, written "from the heart." Things like this do help you to heal faster from the loss. I think everyone here should order a copy and the profits go to helping people who cannot afford any care if their precious dog gets cancer, can now get money to help them instead of "putting their puppy to sleep" immediately. I keep pictures of Benny around and think of him and talk about him every day. He is not dead, he is just in another place free from pain. Take your time to heal and please come back and let us know how you are doing. Blessings, Joanne & Shadow |

So sorry for your loss, Dawn. Know that Cassie is cancer and pain free on the other side of the bridge waiting for you to reunite. She'll make her presence known in days to come to let you know she's ok. In the meantime, be kind to yourself in the coming weeks. You'll be in our thoughts.
