Dear Friends,
As I read through the post about Lucky today I felt overwhelmed with tears and it helped me to write this poem. We are all so connected here and who would have thought that something as terrible as "Cancer" would join us together and give us such a tight bond of friendship? A VERY SPECIAL PLACE There is a very special place I visit every day, A place of peace and comfort when tears get in the way. You see I had a very special buddy in my life, A little boy in a fur suit who helped me deal with strife. He started every day with a smile upon his face, And when I was unhappy, my tears he did erase. He wagged his little stub of a tail and lay by the fireside, Loving me with all his heart and to my heart was tied. Cancer invaded my little friend and though we did our best, He lost his life to this dreadful disease and my heart was put to the test. For months before my Benny died, I visited this site, Seeking advice, sharing my pain, trying to see some light Along the sad and woeful path that Benny and I were on, Sometimes the clouds darkened the day, sometimes the sun shone. But through it all I met the most amazing people here, Friends who shared a joyful day and understood my tears. Thank you all for caring in your very special ways, For helping me go through my grief and brightening lonely days. I’ll miss my Benny always and some days are worse than others, But the best thing that came from this was to know that there are others Who had to take this same detour and lose their precious friend, I will continue to visit this place until I meet my end. My prayers go out to each of you, and you are not alone, We’re like an extended family and this place is like a home, Where we can feel safe and cry if tears won’t seem to dry, Where we’re understood and comforted and it’s okay to cry. Dear Joanne, I know its been a while since I posted on this site, but after reading your poem, I just had to respond. You have always touched me with your kind words and poems. You are right, this site is like an extended family for all of us brought together by a terrible disease. I thank God everyday for everyone I have met here and for all the help I had dealing with this terrible disease. Your friend Jim.

Joanne, as everyone has said, that piece of writing is wonderful.
It is so true isnt it, this place is somewhere we can come, and even though we dont "know" one another, we seem to get some comfort from one another. I didnt find the forum until Missy was gone, but I know for some reason I keep coming back, its as if we share a bond and can post about how we are feeling and how much time has passed, without feeling strange about it. I know I love reading the posts where posters talk about their furry friends hanging in there, and the different types of treatment they are trying, and I hope that the next post they make will be even more positive. I think we all give one another a form of courage, and also a place where we feel like we can honour the memory of our pets that we have lost to cancer. Keep up the wonderful verses Joanne, as sad as some of them are, they are great to read.

Thank Debbie,
You are so right! This is a wonderful place where we can come and find "hope" and comfort. Some of the puppies will "beat the odds" and that is just great to hear. We can share stories about our beloved puppies who have crossed over and just connect with people who are "on the same page." Thanks for your very kind words. They mean a lot to me as does everyone here. Hugs, Joanne & Shadow |
