Exclamation Collie breed chemo - do not use vincristine!!

If you have a collie breed, please have them tested before
they use a common chemo therapy - vincristine. They have
done studies that show the collie breed may not be able
to withstand this treatment.

My border collie had toxic results that led to his death!!

Unhappy

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I recently learned that my boxer has lymphocarcoma. We did start chemo for him and over the last three weeks, he has become a new dog.

But does anyone else have any experience or advice to give me as to what to expect? I love all of my puppies (the youngest being 7 years old). But Lucky is my youngest and he is the one that is sick with the cancer. Is he experiencing pain with his Chemo and how long does that have to last?

Anyone having been thru this, please let me know.

Hi Lucky's Mom
So sorry to hear about Lucky's diagnosis. What chemo treatment is he getting? My rottie Maximus was diagnosed with Lymphoma in June 08 and is thankfully still with me, thanks in big part I think to chemo, as well as good nutrition and supplements.
I'd be happy to help you however I can and answer any questions about what Max and I have experienced along the way. Many others here too are wonderful support and knowledgeable as well. You've come to a good place. We are all going through something terrible and very hard - but there's lots of support and information here.

Hi Mare
My Maximus is getting a variety of supplements. Not all at once - some are cycled or stopped for a certain length of time, mostly depending on when he gets his chemo treatments and what treatments he's getting and the side effects.
L-Arginine, L-Glutamine, Fuciodan, CoQ10, Salmon Oil, Flax Seed Oil, Artemisinin, Chinese herbal mushrooms, Milk Thistle, Cat's Claw, Pine Bark Extract, Transfer factor and Essiac Tea. I also add fresh ginger to his meals sometimes and Brazil nuts. Think thats all. Sounds like a lot, but as I mentioned, he's not on them all at the same time - they are rotated on and off.

Hello, Ijust started the chemo on my boarder collie and that was the first of the medications. He had terrible results, seizures, nausea,vommiting, dehydration muscle tremmors, fevers and even joint swelling and pain so he couln't walk. I cleansed him with liver and kidney herbs and got him thru it but am affraind to continue with any further chemo treatment. Are any of the other medications toxic to boarder collies???

Hi s.dranch;
I had my Molly Girl at a special vets,and he came right out and told me that chemo and radiation hurt dogs.He basically said that to keep your good friend was to do the herbal thing.I found a herbalist in Austrailia that will work with you,if you email them with updates about your pet they will work with you for free.That is a vital part of their program to respond to all questions and answer to the best of there ability.The site is robert mcdowell herbs from Bathurst Austrailia and they are the best in my books.They have took me by the hand and guided me thru 22 months with my Molly.I suggest that you contact them and see what herbal formula they can mix up for your pet.
