Post has anyone done chemo for osteosarcoma?

We don't know which way to go. Riley had his back leg amputated 2 weeks ago. He is doing fine and out of pain now. He had his stitches removed today and we talked with the oncologist about the chemo. He has 3 to 5 months without chemo and 10 to 12 maybe with chemo. there are no guarantees either way. He gets 5 treatments, 3 weeks apart, and a blood count every 10 days. I am just so confused, this is not giving him very much more time and I just don't want him to suffer needlessly. Anyone out there with any information on chemo for osteosarcoma in golden retrievers? Default chemo for osteoscarama

I feel for you.....we are going thru the same thing. Our Rhodesian Ridgeback is 11 and just had her front right leg amputated in November. We opted to do the chemo and just like you we go every 2 to 3 weeks with bloodwork in between. She got thru the first round of chemo with flying colors......the second one, was just given to her on Tuesday and she is not doing as well. This time we are seeing the side effects. I was convinced we were doing the right thing with the chemo, but after seeing her today, I'm not so sure. My husband took her to Med Vet to get checked out to make sure we are just seeing the side effects of the chemo vs. something else. Waiting to hear the results. Lots of crying today too.

I wish you all the best of luck and will keep you in our prayers. I will try to post again when I get the results.

Just spoke with my husband.....kimani has the textbook 101 side effects of the chemo treatment. She is dehydrated and has to be put on an iv for today and maybe into tomorrow. Dr. will be going over the options with us going forward. Don't want my dog to suffer, but don't want to loose her either. Glad she is ok for now, hate to see her this way.
