Default How much Flax seed oil?

My wonderful Boxer girl, 8 years old, was diagnosed with lung cancer two days ago. The vets say they can't do anything for her and they give her between 3 to 6 months. She is lively, eating well. We have started with a high protein diet, no carbs, coenzyme Q10, and Flaxseed oil mixed with cottage cheese. My question is, how much oil should she be having every day? I haven't managed to find the amount she is supposed to have.
I have ordered K9 Inmunity and K9 Transfer Factor and Essiac capsules from the States (we are living in Spain) and will start her on those as soon as we get them
If anyone has any idea on how much flaxseed oil to give her I would be very grateful
I am not prepared to let her go without a fight! She is my baby!!

Default Flax

I'm assuming you've found some things on the Budwig diet. I am doing this with my dog Nik who was recently diagnosed with bone cancer. You can see my blog here for more info on what I'm doing the dogs who found me

I give about 2 tbsp of flax oil (Barleans) 2 times a day mixed with 3 tbsp of cottage cheese.

Remember, no vaccines, raw food, NO carbohydrates of any kind, and good luck!

Default Budwig Protocol

Hi: Sorry to hear your news :-( The cottage cheese and flax seed oil is called Budwig protocol. You can check it out on-line. The important things to remember are that it has to be used immediately, you can't make a batch and use it. Secondly, it's the emulsification of the cheese that helps with the treatment. If your blender (like mine) can't blend small amounts you can use a whisk instead. No carbs as mentioned before and K9 immunity is also good. Any holistic vets that might help build the immune system too!

Good luck and let us know how things go!

This might help you determine the amounts of cottage cheese and flaxseed oil.

As John stated - mix very well and use immediately!

Good Luck!

Default Budwig protocol

Thanks for your answers and advice. I have started her on the flaxseed oil with cottage cheese. One question about the Budwig protocol. Is it ok to feed the dog just meat (no veg)? it seems to be different for human, of course. I just give her good quality beef, hard boiled eggs, tinned sardines, bur she won't have any veggies.

Wink Re: Veggies

Dear Friend,
Certainly meats are excellent for your dog and also sardines and canned salmon as well. However, vegetables have many antioxidant benefits especially the darker green varieties such as spinach, kale, broccoli. You could take some extra lean hamburger with a little yogurt or cottage cheese, olive oil, a bit of turmeric and one or two vegetables which you have lightly steamed and put them in a blender and make "patties" and cook in extra virgin olive oil. This might entice Nina to eat them. It is worth a try.
Hugs to Nina today and keep us posted.

Blessings,
Joanne & Shadow

Default Thank you

Thank you all for your replies. This site is fantastic! It helps to know you can share your worries and get advice from people in the same situation. A lot of my friends can't imagine what I am going through thinking about my special girl who has lung cancer and wondering how I am going to cope with her deteriorating. Still, I will try everything to try and get more time with her!
Thanks!!

Raw food is actually the preferred food for cancer dogs IF they are not going through chemo. Raw meats, broccoli, carrot, spinach, things of that nature are great.
ANd I agree on the flaxseed oil-get the refrigerated cold press, 2 TB in each feed or in cottage cheese.

Please be aware when using the budwig protocol may have effects on the pancreas(sp?)
I did this with Lakota and the fat (low fat cottage chesese) was to much. Had to fast and give IV fluid to clean out pancreas.
For most it does work wonders with no problems.
