Hi, my boxer named rufus is 6 1/2 years old , diagonosed with lymphoma t cell cancer. almost a month ago, decided to do the home cooked food, I use pork, chicken, turkey, hamburger and some sausage, mixed with shredded broccoli, and shredded carrots, and brown eggs, some tofu ,mixed well together, then baked like a meat loaf, then refrigerated and used for a week at a time, I also am giving around 5000 mg of flaxseed oil, one pet - tabs complete vitamin, 1 prednisone 20 mg { twice daily } 1 cimetidine 200 mg { twice daily } 1 green tea 315 mg capsule daily, plus Echinacea around 2000 mg daily . plus some Essiac oil daily, Rufus is feeling great, and is looking better, The lymph node does not feel like it is swollen anymore in his chest, any suggestions on how to keep Rufus around for extended period, I love my boxer very much, he has slept in my bed since he came home at 8 weeks old, I am trying to not give him any carbs at all, I am thinking the flaxseed might not be a good choice, Thinking I will switch to fish oil today, what about the ECHINACEA pro s or con s with it ? some web sites say it is very good in fighting lymphoma ? any help would be very greatly appreciated , Rufus has not done any chemo or radiation.

Dear Friend,
So sorry to hear of the recent diagnosis of lymphoma in Rufus. You might want to check out this website of Dr. Robert McDowell: `Lymphoma or Lymphosarcoma Cancer Support . Herbal Treatment Programs for Cancer Patients, Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy Support with Herbal Medicine and Information on alternative (herbal) treatment for cancer in people, horses and dogs. Many people here have been helped by Dr. McDowell with excellent results and many more months with their beloved puppies. You might also wish to give Rufus Artemisinin as a supplement: http://holleypharma.com/ It really helped my Benny while he was fighting his cancer. Everything you are doing is showing positive results. You have definitely come to the right place for support, help, information and understanding. There is a lot of help here in the posts. I am sure others will be responding to your note. Good luck on your journey. My prayers are with you and Rufus! Blessings, Joanne & Puppy Shadow Last edited by Benpaws; 11-20-2009 at 08:31 AM. |

RE: the fish oil and the flaxseed and the prednisone for Rufus. We gave Benny one capsule of Wild Salmon fish oil every day and we continue to do that with our new puppy Shadow. The flaxseed is a good idea. Just put a little oil in the food (Do NOT HEAT it.) As far as prednisone, you might notice that Rufus needs to go outside and urinate more often. Prednisone causes this frequent urination. You might want to try giving the second dosage earlier in the day rather than close to bedtime. Benny gained too much weight on this drug. Good luck. Rufus is hungry all the time, while i am loading him up with high fat and proteins, and no carbs, will the cancer cells feed off of other stuff than carbs ? which vitamins are harmful for cancer dogs ? Any help is greatly appreciated . Thanks

I don't know which vitamins are harmful - many people on this site have or are giving a whole range of supplements - check this out . And as far as high protein diet - we have been told the cancer does not thrive on high protein - but it does on carbs -and I know Aussie gets hungry some times - the vet said to give her a snack -fruit or vegetables - (no onions, grapes )because they do digest there food faster-she loves apples ,oranges -peppers, spinach - you name it - if I eat so will she.good wishes - Andrea & Aussie

The recipe for raw diet our holistic vet gave me for our dog with Lymphoma says he can have a small amount of apple as a snack-I feed him about 1/4 of an apple, peeled and cut in chunks and he loves it.Not every day but you could every day if you want. Shocked the heck out of me that he does, but he does. Also said he could have 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup of cooked lentils in his feed. He gets all the complex carbs he need in the broccoli, carrot and spinach.

Rufus is hungry because of the prednisone. Rufus is getting a large dose. Benny was the same, hungry but on a much lesser dose. I don't know what vitamins are harmful to dogs with cancer but the ones I gave certainly extended Benny's life. I would discuss this with your vet. We gave Co Q-10, Artemisinin, Wild Salmon Oil, Reishi, Quercetin etc. Prayers to you. Blessings, Joanne & Shadow |

Deeply sorry to hear about Rufus. We were recently diagnosed with a fast-growing lymphoma, too. I've been told and have read that cancer feeds on carbs, so no grains or such, either. No sugar and I think no (or very little) fruit.
Something I just learned that a vet in Sarasota is doing: Mix 2 parts cottage cheese or yogurt (MUST BE FULL FAT - NOT LOW FAT) with 1 part flax seed oil (NOT capsules, but use the refrigerated kind). If you are using cottage cheese, mash it very well. Give a couple of spoonfuls of this at every meal. I hear this is doing wonders for the cancer patients, but I don't have details. I have recently read that organic coconut oil is cancer fighting, so I have also added that to the mix. It solidifies in cooler temps. Additionally, a friend of mine's dog beat cancer at an older age with the diet and vitamins A, C, and E supplements. She also used B-Naturals Bert's Immune Blend powder. We're fighting the disease now. My Yogi's legs are weak, but he doesn't seem to feel bad. Hope Rufus does well. We're pulling for him. |
