For some time now I have been researching into alternative cancer treatments. It is an sad and ironic coincidence that some time after I began my research my sister, aged 49, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She has been in hospital since the end of September 2008 and is still there now. In addition, One of my dogs, Rocky, became ill at the beginning of December.
Rocky lost his appetite, lost weight became lethargic and had awful diarrhoea. We took him to our vetinary surgery. They did many tests on Rocky and he was found to have the campylobacter infection. He was treated for this but his diarrhoea persisted. After more tests and an x-ray (which didn’t really show anything untoward) the vets concurred that there must be a foreign object embedded in his stomach and, it was probably a tumour/s. The diarrhoea is a result of Rocky’s immune system trying to expel the object. As Rocky is fourteen years old the vets thought it unwise to operate on him to investigate further and said as long as his quality of life is ok then let nature takes its course and when the time comes and Rocky is suffering, well, we all know what follows. Back to my research. One of the substances that I am particularly interested in is Vitamin B17 or Amygdalin. The synthesised form is called laertrile. For my purposes I will use the name amygdalin. Amygdalin is a naturally occurring substance in over 2000 species of plants. The highest concentration being in apricot seeds. There has been much controversy about the use of amygdalin in the treatment of cancer. Amygdalin and laertrile are banned in the USA and the UK. However, in the UK apricot seeds are not banned and are considered a food supplement. Since I began my research I am now totally convinced that amygdalin, while not a cure for advanced cancers, is certainly a preventative and a controlling treatment of cancer, and I have, for the past six months or so, been eating about ten apricot seeds a day. They do taste a little bitter (bitter almonds). Back to Rocky. Since the conventional treatments for Rocky (because of his age) were out of the question I started to give him about eight apricot capsules (you can buy the apricot seeds ready powdered in capsule form for people who don’t like eating the raw seeds. One capsule is roughly the equivalent to one and a half raw seeds. I wrapped the capsules in meat paste. After a few days, Rocky began to get his appetite back. He also became more active and started to ‘scrounge’ when we were eating our meals. Rocky always did this before he became ill. That’s how we knew he was really ill when he stopped scrounging. After five weeks of amygdalin supplements Rocky is now back to his old self. However, he still does have diarrhoea. Sometimes though his stools do ‘thicken’ up. While the amygdalin will have killed of the cancer cells in the tumour/s it does not dissolve the tumour. That will either happen naturally or is removed by surgery. Rocky will have to continue having the capsules (now reduced to four a day) for the rest of his life. I also give three capsules a day to my other dog. Tammy (11 Years old) as a preventative. Now, my dog loving friends, you may make what you will of this story. However, I would suggest you further enlighten yourselves before coming to a decision about amygdalin. Rocky (6 year old golden cocker) was diagnosed with lymphoma 8 months ago. He had chemo(Wisconsin protocol) and has been on K9 immunity tablets throughout. He also has fish oil tablets and more recently we started him on curcumin (Tumeric). He is doing well so far. He is also on a strict all protein, no grain diet as cancer feeds off carbs. Hope this helps

Do you know if Amygdalin would be good for prevention of mast cells? My dog just had surgery for removal of a mast cell growth, he has had this surgery before. I have been researching supplements for prevention and saw the thread about Amygdalin. Right now I have him on the canine Transfer Factor.
Thanks!! Karen |

hi i have just bought the b17 (amyglidlin) tablets from mexico where it is in common use for cancer treatment. i cant say at the moment if there is any improvement as i also have her on zeolite, phytoplankton, pinebark, and flaxseed along with vit c and mutivit and mins. i am now waiting for colloidal silver to be delivered. all these supplements are supposed to help with cancer in one way or another. she has shown much improvement on all the others so im hoping that the b17 and silver will complement everything else. i had a nasty scare not long ago as the tumour (in her mouth) smelt terrible and seemed to have suddenly doubled in size.... she stopped eating and i managed to get blended food and water down her with a syringe. after 3 days of no improvement i thought the time had come to say goodbye and took her back to the vet, who thought she had an infection on the tumour and gave her some antibiotics which has got her eating again and playing and taking an interest. she also takes prednistone .....the colloidal silver is supposed to be a natural antibiotic so hopefully i can keep any infections at bay. she is an old girl 17yr old springer so im not expecting miracles but to improve whatever time she has left so i would say to people never give up untill you know in your heart that you have done all you can and she really doesnt want to carry on. i wish everyone the very best in searching for what might suit there pet to improve their quality of life. on a seperate note being new to the forum .when i am logged in and try to post i get messg that i am not logged in and have to re-login .. is that normal anyone please

hi im really sorry to hear of your dog nikki and all you can do is research what you feel is best and what you can afford. i started my 17yr old girl on 3 tablets a day. (which i got from mexico) i found the only way she would be fooled into taking them along with phytoplankton, pine bark, collodial silver, flaxseed and multi vits and mins was to blend them with cooked liver (which she only gets as a treat normally as she is now on a raw food diet) but splitting her food into 3 small ones a day has done the trick. i believe it is making some difference as she does seem brighter and has started to lap water againg when before i had to give it her thro a hosepipe and the tumour on her gum seems just a little smaller . she is enjoying her walks again and the secondary infection she got seems to be clearing up as the awful smell is going. my vet says its only a matter of weeks before she goes as because of her age he cant offer any surgical treatment so hopefully i can extend that by just a few days where she is happy but secretly hoping its much longer. all the very best to you both

How are your dogs doing with amygdalin? I have 9 year old golden retriever, Kyle and he was diagnosed with lymphoma--he is on chemotherapy under prednisone-vincristine-cyclophosphamide protocol--looking for alternative for kyle because I'm afraid he might not make it, he was getting weaker every week--his liver enlarged, all the lumps on his body are gone, what remains are the nodules inside his abdomen
