Kobe/Osteosarcoma
Hello everyone,
My name is Denise and my baby boy, Kobe was diagnosed with cancer on Feb. 1st of this year. Kobe is a 10 year old gsd. The vets believe it is osteosarcoma of the tibia and x-rays show that the cancer has spread to his lungs. He also has masses in his stomach.
Because the cancer is so advanced, our options for treatment were very limited. We have him on 3 pain meds- though they do not seem to be helping. We also tried an intravenous treatment called Pamidronate which is supposed to help alleviate some of the pain while decreasing bone invasion. This did not seem to work either. So we finally tried radiation therapy (palliative) thinking this would surely give him some relief. It has now been 1 week since he finished the 5 day treatment and it only seems to have made him worse.
If anyone knows of anything that might help dogs with osteosarcoma, I would appreciate the info. Also, for those of you who have done palliative radiation therapy to help ease your dog's pain, can you tell me how long it took before you started to see improvement? I was told it would be anywhere between 2 days into the treatment and one week following the completion of the treatment. Keeping my fingers crossed and praying to God that my boy will get better despite the virtually hopeless prognosis.
